The #BlackHillsWolves Blog Hunt: Bringing the Book to Life with Dena Garson

When I began work on my BHW book, Your Wild Heart, I was fortunate enough to make a connection with a Forester who works at/in the Black Hills National Forest. Right off she explained the differences between the parks in the Black Hills. Did you know the area included the National Forest, national parks and monuments, Custer State Park, as well as private land? And all this time I thought it was one big park!

Even more interesting were the various jobs and responsibilities in each. While narrowing down exactly what my hero did I learned that there are distinctive differences in a National Park Ranger and a National Forest Ranger. A National Park Ranger acts as an interpreter or law enforcement agent where as a Forest Ranger is responsible for a specific district and the resource preservation within.

So next time you visit a national park look a little closer at your surroundings. You never know what might be going on behind the scenes. As for me, I’m trying to figure out when I can take a trip to South Dakota to take my Forester friend up on her offer of a tour - I can’t wait! Meanwhile I’ll just have to live vicariously through our characters.

About Your Wild Heart

Wildlife biologist, Isabelle Acker, meets sexy park ranger, Wyatt Powell. His Wolf sits up and takes notice of her, but when he learns why she came to the park, he becomes wary of her intentions. After all, as far as the general population knows, there are no wolves in the Black Hills.

Ordered by his Alpha to keep an eye on the smoking-hot biologist, Wyatt finds it difficult to keep his hands to himself. He wants to possess her, to share everything about his life, but that might endanger the Tao Pack. But the attraction proves too great and, unable to deny his Wolf, he takes her with a passion he didn’t know he possessed.

However, their sexual bliss is short-lived, and on the night of the full moon, more than one secret is revealed. When all is said and done, they must each decide—is what they have between them true love or just hot sex?

#BlackHillsWolves Blog Hunt: If At First with @ChandraRyan

During my college years, I worked as a waitress at a small town pizza place. The hours were long. The pay was minimal. But neither of those factors were why the job was so hard. I am a klutz.

I spilled pitchers of soda on tables, dropped pasta on costumers, and would trip over my own two feet while carrying hot pizza. Despite the hardships, I never gave up. I didn’t actually quit until I’d married my husband and we were moving for his job. I was determined to get it right or be fired trying.

When I started writing Reluctant Mate, I wanted my hero to have that same sense of perseverance. He met his match when he found his mate, Aimee. She stubbornly refuses to accept she has a mate. Jackson can’t let that get him down, however. He’s determined to do everything in his power to win her. If things between Aimee and himself don’t work out, it won’t be for lack of trying on his part.

What did I learn from writing Jackson? There’s something incredibly sexy about a man who puts it all on the line for the woman he wants to share his life with. And a hero is sometimes strongest when falters because we get to see him stand up and try again.

Aimee Crest is the prissiest; most stuck-up Wolf Jackson Cooper has ever met. The woman has a temper that would send sailors running and enough emotional baggage to keep a shrink in business for a lifetime. A Wolf would do well to steer clear of her. And Jackson would be happy to do just that—if it weren’t for one little thing that makes her irresistible to him. She’s his mate.

It’s a fate Aimee didn’t ask for and one she’s not at all happy about. She doesn’t want a mate. More to the point, she refuses to accept one. Even if that mate happens to be tall, muscular, and damn good with his hands. He won’t be able to seduce his way into her heart. She won’t let him.

But in this battle of wills, there is no middle ground. Somebody is going to have to surrender.

Have you ever given your all for something? What's the hardest job you've ever stuck with to get it right? We'd love to hear what you think! One lucky commentator will win Portrait of a Lone Wolf by Katalina Leon and Taming his Mate by Melissa Limoges.

The #BlackHillsWolves Blog Hunt Continues: Meet Ravage #Hot #Wolf #Interview

Mahalia Levey, author of Seducing the Schoolmarm, has dropped in to interview her hero Ravage from Seducing The Schoolmarm.

Let’s get started!

So “Rav”, what makes you special?

“I’m not so special darlin’, just a Southern man who was taught how to treat others right.”

His charm warms my cheeks as I sit across from him, the tip of my pen in my mouth. “What differentiates you from your kind? Then?” I wait anxious to see if he’ll open up or not.

Ravage leans forward and delivers a panty dropping smile. “My kind is supposed to be a secret darlin’, I’m figuring you must want to be carted off to our land for an adventure of your own.”

A growl reverberates through the air, making me turn my attention from “Rav” to the new intruder, and my heart flutters and my panties grow damp. Eyes wide I take in the image in front of me. A scowling exact replica of the delicious male in front of me. Darting my gaze back and forth. I can’t decide who to look at more, the charming man in front of me or the beast who broke into my office, interrupting my interview.

“Excuse me,” I find my voice. “Who are you and why are you barging into a private interview?”

Sexiness on a stick flicks an annoyed gaze to the man across from me. “Raze, you can go now.”

“Oh! I didn’t realize there were two of you…til now.” I stammer.

Dark and sexy swaggers over to his brother and punches him in the face. “Quit acting like you’re me, fuck face.”

The #BlackHillsWolves #BlogHunt is on...Ten Reasons to Love Wolf Shifters

Welcome to the Black Hills Wolves Blog Hunt. I can’t tell you how excited I am that you have joining us for the next two weeks as we take a little odyssey through the Black Hills with a group of fiercely creative authors and sexy dominant wolves and the women who love them. Every day of the hunt, we’ll feature one author here and another author will be sharing their fun over on their blog as well. We’ll always post a link for where you need to go next. Be sure enter our blog hunt giveaway. At her discretion, each author may host an individual giveaway, too.

I freely admit, I love writing shifters, and I love reading them, too. I read them for years before I wrote my own. Whether I’m working on a Wolves of Willow Bend or a Black Hills Wolves or one of my ROARs, shifters fill me with no small amount of awe, love, and yes—I’ll admit it—lust. I’ve learned a lot about love from writing wolves. I learned a lot about it from reading them, too.

So what are my top ten reasons for loving wolf shifters?
by Heather Long

  • Ever heard the term Mama Bear? Mama Wolves are pretty damn tough, too. More, pack animals like wolves are not only incredibly protective of their young, they work together to raise them and shelter them. Writing (and reading for that matter) about Wolf Shifters, opens a door to a world where the whole community comes together to nurture their young, protect them and raise them. It can also make it all that much more poignant when they have rogue wolves or problems.
  • Wolves are hawt. Let’s be blunt wolves are majestic animals, they move with a grace that’s hard to match and whether the wolf is snow white or black as night or somewhere in between, it’s hard not to admire them in their animal forms. Conversely, their human forms are just as sexy and appealing because they’re perfect exactly as they are.
  • Wolf shifters, like their animal cousins, are incredible survivors—whether assaulted by natural or man-made disasters, they recover, their numbers surge and they come back better and stronger than before. In the Black Hills, the Tao Pack suffered under a reign of terror perpetuated by Magnum, since his death, the pack has begun to recover stronger than ever.
  • Wolves themselves are primal. They are a huge part of our folklore here in the United States and all over Western Europe.
Wolf's Return
  • Pack animals work amazingly well together because of a sense of trust and necessity. Saying there is no I in team with wolves and wolf shifters is very true. Alphas may hold power, but they are also the most dedicated to their packs. In the Black Hills, it was a concerted effort between two shifters—one Wolf and one Bear—which brought Drew home to overthrow his mad father.
  • In many cultures, wolves represent both freedom and loyalty—remember, wolves mate for life. We love our HEAs, but can you imagine knowing without a shadow of a doubt that your mate/partner is one hundred percent devoted to you and will always be there? Now that’s romantic.
  • They are fast. In the wild a wolf can clock in thirty to forty miles an hour. Hello Flash.
  • They have sharp hearing, and a keen sense of smell. It’s difficult to sneak up on a wolf, and a wolf shifter can use this to their advantage both to protect those they love and to charm them.
  • As a total aside, wild wolves have a domesticated cousin—the dog. I adore my dogs, and I see pack dynamics every day whether it’s the cute little dachshund, the grumpy old husky or the over enthusiastic labradane, canines possess a wealth of personality and affection. When a dog loves you? They love all of you. Translate that to wolf shifter, and wowza!
What a Wolf Wants
  • Last, but by no means least—wolf shifters like their wild cousins are masters of body language, scent, and tonality. They don’t lie, because what would be the point? Sometimes they are brutality honest, but you always know where you stand. In a world where deception seems to be commonplace, it’s a comfort to imagine one where what a person says is what they mean.
Whether we’re talking about our partners in the wild or the characters we create, wolves connect us to our primal sense of self. They are an apex predator, and they return us to a simpler time and existence. I love wolves, I love wolf shifters and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of them.

Do you have a favorite aspect of a wolf shifter? Or your own reasons? I’d love to hear them. One lucky commentator will be drawn to win a copy of Wolf’s Return by Rebecca Royce and What a Wolf Wants by Heather Long—the two books that launched the Black Hills Wolves. Join us and see how it all began.

Celia Breslin chats with Darci from DIAMOND MOON #BHW #shapeshifter @DecadentPub

Hello Dear Readers,

Nice to be here on the Black Hills Wolves blog today! I have my character Darci Diamond, star of Diamond Moon, with me today, and she agreed to let me interview her.

Enjoy! J

[Celia:] Thanks for hanging with me today, Darci. Can you state your name and age for the record?

[Darci:] Darci Diamond, age 25. ::winks:: Come on, Celia, ask me something more interesting.

[Celia:] Sure thing, D. Why don’t you explain where you came from, what you are, and share your little…problem.

[Darci:] And by “little”, you mean gigantic...  ::sighs::  I’m a human-wolf hybrid, born and raised in Ashland, Oregon. My parents died when I was little so I lived with my human aunt. It was hard living among humans and having to keep my true identity a secret. Shifting is a real issue for me, so I came to Los Lobos, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, to get some help with it. If I don’t find help soon, my next shift might kill me…

[Celia:] It’s a tough situation, to be sure. Tell us a little more about life in Ashland and Los Lobos.  Do you have friends in both places?

[Darci:] In Ashland, my circle of friends was quite small.  It’s hard to make deep connections when you’re keeping this huge secret. I felt like an isolated superhero most of the time, but without the fun powers. That said, I was well liked by my teachers and fellow students – I worked hard and treated everyone with respect. In Los Lobos, it’s a mixed bag. I’m half human and some Wolves can’t see past that to get to know me.

[Celia:] How do you deal emotionally with the isolation? And with your life threatening shifts?

[Darci:] I love to geek out on my computer (I was a Computer Science major in college) and can forget my problems and lose myself in programming for hours on end. Humor helps, too. Life is messy. And for me, I mean that figuratively and literally. I’ll spare our readers the gory details of my shifts…  Laughter lightens the load, ya know?

[Celia:] Indeed it does, Darci. So, now that I’ve sprung you from your book for the day, is there somewhere else you’d like to go in my world?

[Darci:] Let’s get coffee in your hometown!  I love San Francisco, and have been so jealous of your visits to Four Barrel Coffee in the Mission District. I want some of that nuclear powered goodness. Great, Celia, now I’m totally in need of a cappuccino and one of their bacon maple donuts…yum! Take me now!

[Celia:] LOL!  Patience, Darci. Tell us a bit about your new hometown, Los Lobos. Think I’d like it?

[Darci:] Ha, you’re such a city girl, Celia, but I bet you would like it here, anyway.  It’s beautiful mountain country, and besides, I have wi-fi so you could stay in touch with the outside world. Plus, you grew up in the land of wicked thunderstorms, right? So you would love storm season here.

[Celia:] Enough weather chatter. Let’s talk sex. What was the best sexual experience you’ve had?

[Darci:] ::laughs:: You just had to go there, didn’t you?  The answer is Ross. D’uh and enough said. ::grins::

[Celia:] Well, on that note, I guess we’re done here.  Thanks for being such a good sport, D. Appreciate it.

[Darci:] No problem, Celia.  This was fun! Bye!  ::waves at readers::

Diamond Moon
Black Hills Wolves Book 12
Celia Breslin

....Human-wolf hybrid Darci Diamond spends every full moon locked in auntie’s basement in Southern Oregon. Her excruciating shifts terrify her, the last one causing her heart to stop beating. Seeking a cure, she journeys to Los Lobos.
....Ross Luparell returns to the struggling Tao pack, using his millions made in the tech industry to build homes for pack families in need. He never imagined he would also find his one true mate. But when a hybrid with the biggest green eyes he’s ever seen lands on his doorstep in the middle of a wicked summer storm, there’s no denying it. She’s the one.
....She wants a normal human life, free from pain-filled shifts. He won’t give up on her Wolf, and will do whatever it takes to help her accept her true nature. But can he convince her to trust him with her heart?

EXCERPT:
....Darci hurried along the gravel edging the worn pavement masquerading as a road leading into Los Lobos, population unknown, exact location not even listed on her Rand McNally map. Her boots kicked up enough dust in the growing wind to make her sneeze, even as the hairs on her nape rose from the incessant sensation of being watched.
....For the millionth time since she’d abandoned her little VW Beetle a few miles back—where the road devolved into a post-apocalyptic joke of a highway—she palmed the pink SABRE mini taser in her jacket pocket, comforted by the hard plastic deliverance of doom her aunt had insisted she take with her on her journey to the middle of nowhere.
....Rolling hills, rocky cliffs peeking out from the densely packed pine trees, meadows encouraging a Sound of Music gallop with arms stretched wide. America’s Heartland. Beautiful and remote Black Hills, South Dakota. Too bad the pretty place had goose bumps tracking up her arms and chills scurrying down her spine.
....The wind kicked up, and she grabbed the bill of her baseball cap, holding tight. If those cranky black clouds started spitting rain, she’d need this little protection. She hadn’t packed an umbrella. Rain rarely happened at home this time of the year. Too bad she’d neglected to Google the weather for South Dakota in June. Judging from the swirling cloud cover, a world of oh, hell no might unleash on her head before she managed to make it to town.
....If the town really existed.

[…]

....A graying, rotted, wood fence zigzagged in front of what was once probably a small ranch house, now an assortment of broken windows, half-ripped roof, and weather-weary walls. A door hung open and flapped against the side of the ranch, the banging sound audible to her keen Wolf hearing over the ever-increasing screech of the wind.
....Then she saw it—movement in the tall green grass. Something as grey as the fence it slunk under. Something big. Darci froze, heart hammering in her chest. A Wolf padded directly for her.
....She shoved the map in her pocket and grabbed her taser, backing away into the center of the road. “Uh, nice doggie. I’m one of you. Kinda. Sort of. Maybe.” Great, babbling at a wild animal. A predator who looked very hungry for a woman-sized snack.
....Lightning flashed. Thunder cracked. The Wolf growled.
....Darci whirled and ran...
